2015년 3월 23일 월요일, 한주의 시작에 한 사람은 생을 마감했습니다. 싱가포르의 국부 리콴유가 사망했습니다. 리콴유를 잘 알지는 못합니다. 리콴유라는 이름을 아는 이유는 서점에서 책을 뒤지다 몇 번 봤기 때문입니다. 리콴유를 네이버에서 찾아보니 삼가 고인의 명복을 빕니다라며 국화가 붙어있네요.

 

 

현 싱가포르의 총리가 그의 아들 리센룽이군요. 리센룽의 프로필을 봤습니다. 싱가포르에서 다양한 장관, 차관직 등을 거쳤군요. 그래서 그의 학력을 보니 캠브리지와 하버드에서 공부를 했군요.

I have no regrets.이라는 말을 할 수 있다는 것이 놀랍습니다. 한 시대를 풍미했던 사람들이 하나 둘 사라져 갑니다. 현 시대에서 이름을 날리던 이들도 언젠가는 영원히 잠들겠지요. 유명인의 죽음을 생각하다 보니 기억나는 기사가 있습니다. 어디서 본 기사인지 정확히 기억이 나질 않습니다만, 엘리자베스 여왕 서거야말로 엄청난 뉴스가 될 것이라는 기사입니다. 

 

평범한 사람들의 죽음은 그 탄생과 마찬가지로 세상에 표시도 없겠지요. 그래도 리콴유처럼은 단언할 수 없을지라도 날마다 후회를 줄여가는 삶을 살다가 갈 수 있다면 좋겠다는 생각을 해봅니다.
